When disasters and severe weather strike, having the right equipment ready can help government teams respond faster and protect communities. Recognizing this need, the City Government of Manila, under the leadership of Mayor Isko Moreno, acquired three (3) brand-new Autokid Manlift Trucks to strengthen the city’s disaster response and maintenance operations.

The units will be used for disaster response, tree trimming, streetlight maintenance, electrical work, and other related activities, providing Manila’s teams with additional equipment they can deploy when needed.

Built to Support Manila Before and During Disasters

According to Director Angeles, Director of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), the acquisition of the three boom basket units was directed by Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso to prepare the city for potential disasters, typhoons, and other emergencies.

“Tayo po ay naatasan ng ating Punong Alkalde Isko Moreno Domagoso upang mag-acquire ng tatlong unit po ng boom basket upang magamit po natin sa pagdating po ng trahedya o anuman pong bagyo o kalamidad na darating po dito sa ating lungsod.” — Director Angeles

The units are intended not only for use during emergencies but also for preventive maintenance before a storm arrives. Director Angeles explained that the manlift trucks can be used to trim trees ahead of typhoons, helping address potential hazards before they become a problem.

“Ito rin po ay magagamit sa pagti-trim ng mga puno bago dumating ang bagyo upang maiwasan ang pagbagsak ng mga puno.” — Director Angeles

Supporting Streetlight and Electrical Maintenance

Beyond disaster preparedness, the new units will also support the Manila City Electrician’s Office in maintaining the city’s electrical infrastructure.

According to Director Angeles, two of the units will be assigned to the City Electrician’s Office for streetlight maintenance and addressing electrical wires that may be damaged or cut during storms.

“At ang dalawa pong unit na ‘to ay ating ipapamahagi sa City Electrician’s Office sa pagmi-maintain po ng ating mga street lights at sa mga kawad po na napuputol sa tuwing may bagyo.” — Director Angeles

This gives the city additional equipment that can support elevated work, particularly when teams need to access streetlights, electrical lines, trees, and other infrastructure requiring work at height.

New Equipment for a More Prepared Manila

The acquisition of three new Manlift Trucks forms part of Manila’s efforts to strengthen its operational readiness.

With dedicated units available for disaster response, pre-typhoon tree trimming, streetlight maintenance, electrical work, and other related activities, the city can have additional resources ready for both preventive operations and emergency situations.

The investment also provides the city with newer vehicles to support its teams as they carry out essential work across Manila.
