Is your kid obsessed with trucks? Here’s why.

WE WERE ALL kids once—we once acted and thought like kids. Then, growing up happened; we became adults and forgot about acting and thinking like kids. We are sometimes lost when we see kids obsessed with something as specific as trucks.

Does your kid love to see trucks?

You probably know a kid that obsesses with trucks or anything with wheels. You may have a kid that runs into the window whenever the garbage truck arrives to collect garbage and see his or her eyes sparkling with interest.

This behavior is normal, though, especially for toddlers from age zero to two who are still in the sensorimotor stage of development. They are naturally interested in loud and moving objects like trucks. They are drawn to the rumble of the engine, the loud honk, and the sheer size of trucks.

Does your kid love toy trucks?

Toy trucks are not only harmless if you let your kids play with them, it’s also beneficial. These toys give them a lot of fun sensory input. Playing with toy trucks even teaches them cause and effect: The more they push harder the faster the toy truck goes; If they push the toy forward, it goes forward, and so on, teaching them the sense of direction. Toy trucks can also help them develop their sense of balance by reaching, bending, and pushing the toy.

Extremely intense interests (EII)

Obsession with trucks is, again, normal among kids and it is a phenomenon that experts call extremely intense interests or EII. This deep interest usually wanes anywhere between six months and three years since it started. So, kids who were once obsessed with trucks don’t necessarily take careers related to trucks when they grow up; They don’t necessarily want to become a mechanic or a trucker. It’s just a normal fascination with something out of the ordinary in their day-to-day lives.
